Idea- Instructables Awards
Everyone's posting ideas for instructables, so I thought I'd post one of my own- The Instructables Award. At the end of every year, the community will vote and pick winners for a category. There doesn't have to be a material prize. It could perhaps be some sort of badge, that is displayed on the winner's page ( example: Best something 2007)
The categories would be something like this:
The categories would be something like this:
- Most productive
- Most comments - (or the Goodhart award)
- Most innovative
- Most featured
- Most helpful (GMiko could be...)
- Most thoughtful...or something
- Most commented
- Most resourceful
- Community member of the year (The kiteman award)
- Most beloved (its a tight race between Ible Robot and Kiteman)
- Most random (*cough*Cough*)
- Most controversial
- Rising star - New guy that's becoming popular
- Random winner - no reason
- Most fun
- Most pyromaniac?
- Most green
- Best techie (techie of the year)
- Best Artist (artist of the year)
- Longest running member (nonstaff)
- Best avatar?
- Best comment (the single best comment of the year?)
- Best forum topic

. Personally, I rather like the egalitarian society we have here. Why spoil it with calling some The Best/Most? . I do like the Most Helpful and Most Thoughtful categories, but, more than likely, the ppl who are the most helpful/thoughful aren't doing it for the recognition, but rather the personal satisfaction.

guess you're right......the people that help dont do it for recognition, so they really do deserve some.

. Good point.
. "Out of the mouth of babes ..." ;)

uh...what?

. Holy Bible - Matthew 21:16 . KJV - "And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?"

babies?

. This is usually interpreted as something along the lines that the unspoiled innocence of children can produce insights and pearls of wisdom that a jaded old man, such as myself, don't see until it is pointed out to us. The part about "perfected praise" (ie, award) just seemed to make it that much more appropriate.

no I know that. but I'm used to hearing babies and children. babes I interpret as beautiful women

. Sorry for the confusion. And I bet the word "gay" has a different meaning for you and I, too. ;)
Reply 12 years ago
If keith-kid does not believe you, here at this link are the lyrics to a very well know movie song where GAY meant "very happy"
just like pop ( is it Dad or is it soda LOL) .
Reply 12 years ago
erm....yes, that's where I learned that meaning from......

That's good. So many of the "common" expressions accepted today as "exclamations" were actually curse words in my younger day (because WE know/knew where they originated). Case in point: so many times I have seen "that sucks" written here. Some of those that still remember the "origin" of that expletive (those old enough to remember) still feel uncomfortable with it's use as it was a very vulgar term at one time.

Something interesting is that 'ibles surrounding serious thought and the like fare badly in viewings and well in comments...

Reply 12 years ago
Lol...are you OCD?
Reply 12 years ago
Only mildly so. Sometimes I get anxious enough to "check, recheck, and check it a third time", but not very often. Anxiety is a problem though.
Reply 12 years ago
ok, you seriously have issues with yourself!
Reply 12 years ago
Well, how else could I have racked up so many "comments" when I really don't have a lot of time on my hands ? ;-)
Reply 12 years ago
But I am always flattered when my moniker crops up in conversation....
Reply 12 years ago
I've just read the full list... :-/

There is the most commented forum topic/ Instructables comment, but this is a good idea, they could have more awards. Most rated Instructable (of the year), for example. All the stuff would have to be each year like how they have it for the comments.
Reply 12 years ago
the most rated will always be the invisible bookshelf thing. always
Reply 12 years ago
those are there already, Im talking about ones that aren't awarded
