Idea for having a fully charged usb battery in your car at all times. Answered

Hello fellow followers of the 1s & 0s.

Here is my idea. Everytime I travel my wife or I forget to update or profiles in the cellphones so we burn battery. I run waze, bluetooth streaming of Sirius Radio streaming as well as background syncing which kills the battery faster than it can charge.

So here is my idea,

Buy an Ankor 1200mAh battery backup/charger and hard wire it into the glove box so everytime I run the car the charger is getting topped off so I can use it either while driving or if the Zombie (more likely sunspot) apocalypse happens. Everytime my phone needs a charge my wife's phone decides it needs attention as well. This way I have 5 ports, ALL SMART, that I could always have ready.

What do you think? Any reason I can't do this or shouldn't? Seeing that my Vibe has a 2-prong household-style plug on the instrument panel by the glove box, I'm thinking it should be an easy thing to wire. My only issue is the plug is rated  115volts, 100w, 1amp max. Not being an electron spec ialist I'm guessing it is too wee to power the brick battery.

PS. If you were thinking of getting a new battery backup I love the one listed above.

I appreciate all your help!

I think that they do sell USB car adapters (I'm not quite sure though). Try getting one off Amazon (if they sell them).

Alright, there are several points I'd like to resurrect. First being from my understanding, I believe your car battery is running out of Juice with all your applications demanding current, and the problem isn't the battery its your cars alternator. Now if your alternator is having a hard time keeping up to demand there is close to nothing you can do. Second is that I believe a battery pack as small as that one, and as low voltage as that one would run out of current fairly quickly. Now if you want this system to be permanent, like you hinted at with your hard wireing idea you should really think about getting a small 12v 12Ah deep cycle battery, http://www.ebay.com/itm/UPG-12V-12Ah-F2-SEALED-LEAD-ACID-AGM-DEEP-CYCLE-RECHARGEABLE-BATTERY-/380553219679, Like the one here, and get an 12 volt inverter, http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Car-Truck-Charger-Travel-Power-Inverter-DC12V-to-110V-240V-AC-Converter-5W-/371017512466?pt=US_Power_Inverters_&hash=item56625df612, like the one here, buy a female cigarette lighter adapter, and charge away. Not only will this cost about the same, but you can also plug in Non-USB charging cords, you get an extra like 10 Amp hours, and you can eventually recycle all the materials if it doesn't work out. Hope this helped you with your decision, thank you for listening.

So if I'm reading you correctly, your phone is dying faster than you can charge it in your car.

Your solution of using the battery backup to charge the phone in the car will not be any faster than what the 12V cigarette adapter is going to put out. Now if you wanted to carry the Ankor 1200mAh battery(or another smaller one) with you then you could charge your phone during the day while you use it when your not driving.

You have a build-in inverter in your car's glove box? Cool! 100W will be more than enough for a simple charger. Nevertheless, a small USB charger might be a smarter option as you don't have to convert from 12V= to 110V~ and back to 5V=

But whatever you install in your car, check the current it uses (even in stand by). Otherwise your car's battery might be empty after a long holiday.

All phones can be charged over USB. So buy a USB car adapters. You can get ones that have more than a single USB port on them. Then you can charge the phones or any other USB device from your car's battery. No need to add a battery when your car has a good one already.
