I'm about ready to give up Answered

For many years I have been a great follower of Instructables, and have contributed something like 70 instructables of my own. Prior to the recent site "upgrade," I would normally visit the site 3-4 times each day to see new submissions. Since the "upgrade," however, it has become so unstable that lately I only try to get to the "recent" items about once/day, and on most days that results in an error. In fact, over the past 7 days I've tried several times to submit this to the forum, but that would error out also. I'm now down to trying to launch Instructables about once/week, and that turns out to be a very iffy proposition. This was once a great site. It's sad that it has become so unstable.

Note: Since there was not an appropriate category listed, I just selected "workshop."

I go to my profile:feed: recent. Is that what you are doing that fails?

When my profile is accessible, I can log out and log back in, and access the feed. The problem is that very often my profile is not there, nor is the login field. When this occurs, I'm hosed.

My profile and feed act weird: navigation sometimes works, sometimes not. I get comment notices in email form, but no comment notice when I go on instructables to reply. The reply links often fail.

Gotchya. I used to have that problem many months ago, but I thought it was fixed. It might be a cookie blocking issue..?.. Maybe try turning off your antivirus temporarily, login a couple of times an see it that helps. Or do you have settings( firewall/anti-malware/antivirus?) that filter or block some cookies. Just throwing out ideas as they come to mind. The software might have a whitelist of acceptable websites to allow more freely.

I was frustrated too, then stumbled on the above and it works for me. Should be on the home page I think.

I've noticed the changes especially during editing, most can be solved by logging out and logging in again. But a few, like permanently deleting an incorrect photograph, I've yet to figure out. When attempting to delete an old photograph, the "Edit / Delete" option no longer appears at the bottom of the photograph as it is blocked by the menu below.

I have found what appears to be a workable solution (sometimes) when my attempt to view recent instructables sends me to an error page. I tried clearing the cookies (like the error page recommends), but that didn't help. What did help was logging out and then logging back in. This seems to work, except for the times that the sign-in button is missing, which happens a bit frequently. If I was a new user at Instructables and experienced these problems, I would have given up and tried to find another site. Apparently the new code that has been implemented is not quite ready for prime time.

What browser are you using? Is this still happening?

Make sure you are updated to the most recent version of Chrome.

Next, try browsing the site using an "Incognito Window." See if you are still experiencing any errors when you do this.

If you are able to view the site in incognito mode, the next step is to go back to a normal browser window and then log out. Then clear cookies, cache and history (for at least the last week or so), and then log back in.

If that still doesn't fix it, let me know.

Is anyone else having issues seeing any of the actual instructions or downloading anything? That is what the upgrade did to me.

Why not have a policy of being nice to the members with a functioning web site?

That's a curious comment. Was there something in my post that was "not nice?"

I agree, not as prolific as you are, more a implementer of the great ideas here. I too am having a difficult time finding new instructables.
