I'm new please help- IR sensors and programming sounds Answered

Hi,
I'm a product design student , trying to make a charity box, which has six slots on the top, depending on what slot the coin or notes go into it needs to make a different sound.

I've attached a picture of my first soft model.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I need to read/ buy to start making this model work?

Thanks a bundle!
Ella

You could just use a tactile switch or leaf switch to detect something passing down in each slot instead of using IR sensors(and cheaper). A basic Arduino UNO would work and can be programmed to play a different tone depending on which switch was triggered.

i wouldn't buy arduino from ebay or amazon, it is hard to get legit boards. Instead order direct from digikey

I'd second what caitlinsdad mentioned. Sometimes the simplest, cheapest way (although not as technological) can be the best. Also, less things to go wrong! Good luck!

Great thanks, and i can make the tone play for 5/10 seconds even if the switch is only conected briefly?
I've ordered all the stuff I need can't wait to give it all a go, will probably try to find some code online rather than writing my own
Oh dear im thinking in type sorry
But yeah thank you so much!

Get an arduino and start reading everything on the Arduino.cc home page. Once you have the basics and learn to program the Microcontroller you can learn to interface multiple IR sensors and a sound player with it.
