I'm thrilled by reactions to an I'ble. I always reply to questions/remarks. How do I respond to reactions like "Great"? Answered

It's not that I don't want to react (on the contrary), but the Instructables site is not getting better if it lists endless lists of people thanking eachother. What is common, what is expected?

person A "Great idea!
person B "Thank you"
Person A "You're welcome"
Person B "You're too kind"
etc...

It is of course up to you. I think responding to every single comment is uncommon. I would go further and say it's counterproductive.  There can be some really great questions and answers in comments but they're really hard to find when you have to sort through dozens (or hundreds) of short comments.

Responding to every single comment can become a full-time job if a number of your 'bles become popular.

Personally I try to answer every question that I can (or at least admit that I can't so someone else can try).  I also try to support people who contribute ideas and suggestions.  That way when people scan through the comments they know that anything with a reply by the author is worth paying attention to. (I hope.)

I have yet to be called cold and uncaring.  At least to my face.

But really it's up to you and what you're comfortable doing.

You could always modify your 'ible and thank everyone for their reaction to your work.

In a world running short of politeness, kindness and consideration some of us enjoy our little refuge called Instructables.

Not such a great refuge. There are a few bullies hiding in here.

"Great idea!" is a statement, it does not need a response.
If you feel like thanking someone for a comment "Thank you" is just fine, it doesn't need a response. "You're welcome" doesn't need a reply either.

-You can not reply at any point in that chain. Common / expected depends upon whether you're the sort of person that likes long comment chains or not.

.  I agree. A "Good job", Great idea", &c really doesn't require a response. A bunch of "Great job"/"Thanks"/"You're welcome"s will just clutter things up.
.  Any suggestions, questions, &c should be answered.
.  It is ultimately a matter of personal preference and who you are. If you want to respond to every comment, go ahead.
