Image quality problem Answered

I take screen shots with Snagit and the files are just fine but whenever i upload them the quality drops considerably.  I've tried JPEG's and PNG's but they both produce the same result.  Normally i wouldn't care but the quality drop is so horrendous the data is unreadable.  I sent an email to support but they stopped responding after I informed them that both file types suck.  Even the provided capture is bad but hopefully you can tell the difference between the two.  Please help

I am not familiar with Snagit but does it capture the screen in a bit map and the file is not converted to vector graphics? I do see the text dimensions are not readable when the image is enlarged so it does not seem to scale well. I experience no problems using images from 12megapixel cameras and I think the upload filesize limit is fairly large.

Usually when you upload an image to a website, it is converted server-side into a smaller highly compressed jpg. This saves the website a lot on bandwidth. Some websites allow you to work around this by making your image adhere to some preset conditions. I don't know what the conditions are different for different websites. On instructables.com there is a box with an "i" in the top left corner of the image, if you click that, you can see the different sizes the server converted the image to, and even the original file.

Instructables converted your example image into multiple sizes. The one shown on this page is using Medium. You can view the other sizes for your sample image here: https://www.instructables.com/file/F1NP2MZH0A28AG0/

Since the server chose the medium version to show on the page, maybe try limiting the images you upload to 500x500 or less?
