Instructable comments in weird order? Answered

Why are the instructable comments in a weird order? My comment on an instructable ended up in the middle of the comments section, not at the top or bottom as you would expect??? How can you track progress of comments on an instructable you like in this weird ordering??

The instructable i want to follow recent comments on is this one:

It only looks like a "weird order", when in fact its meant to be this way.

Instructable authors have the option of selecting one comment as a "feature comment" which displays it first (regardless of when the comment was made). You'll notice that several replies were posted (in a thread) to the original "featured comment".

When you posted your comment, it was posted directly AFTER the "featured comment", because it is the most recent (after the featured one). So, it can look a little weird (because you don't actually get any 'notice' that the comment was featured).

You can test this method yourself. Simply choose a comment (on this page) older than mine and click the 'checkbox' for "feature comment' (its right next to flag). Then when you reload this page it will place that comment above mine. Essentially, it works the same way as when a "best answer" is selected. Regardless of when the comment was made, once its deemed as the best answer, it gets filtered to the top.

Let me know if you need any clarification.

It's likely due to the some of the posting times being a bit messed up at the moment, as some posts appear to have been posted a couple of hours in the future. There is a thread about it in the bugs section.

Example of what I was talking about. check the time stamps on the original comments. Even though my comment was made 4 hours after Skinnerz's his is now on top.

(Sorry for spamming your account and possibly email with this example The Skinnerz)

They are have issues with comments go to the wrong place when made but if you're new to instructables (welcome!) the way comments are ordered is a little different. When someone replies to a old comment the entire tree (the original "root" comment and every subsequent reply and reply-to-a-reply branch) are bumped to the top of the comment section. This means that if a new reply is made to a year old comment that old comment ends up on top of all the newer comments.
