Ipod charger question? Answered

If I were to cut an Ipod charger wire in half, and modded it to hook up to a battery, would it still work?

Looking at a 5G iPod for reference, the internal power management IC is rated for an input of 15 volts. Whether or not the other parts associated with power conversion (capacitors, etc) around it are rated for the same is unknown.

Probably not. It would need to be a battery with an output of 5V.

Exactly 5 volts, or would a nine volt battery work also?

9 would be too much and would fry your iPod. USB needs to be between 4.75 and 5.25 volts.

That would be bad.
What's the voltage of an AA battery, and an AAA battery?

AA and AAA are both 1.5 (or 1.2, I can't remember) volts. The best solution would be a 9V battery with a 5V voltage regulator.
