Yes (for the most part). I cover this exact question in the Color + Finishes Lesson, but there are circumstances where you'd want to use a specific food safe finish.

Most hardware stores and even some of the big box store (aka Menards, Lowes, Home Depot...) will have finishes that are food safe. Look for butcher block or cutting board finishes. Be careful with organic oils, the rags can self combust. Also some vegetable type oils (cooking oils) will work but they can go rancid. I've heard that walnut oil is good and won't readily go rancid.
