Is it possible to find a good MIG welder for $200 - $300? Would you recommend buying a used one?

What other brands do you recommend besides Millermatic?

Lincoln and Hobart are also reliable brands, and look for a used welder! My old shop mate bought one on ebay for $400 + shipping, I think about $550 altogether.

I have a Lincoln Weldpak 100. Will that work? Never been used. Was always looking for clear lessons you've made here.

I am wondering about the gas-free ones as well, although I have read some reviews of other brands that said there was a lot of splatter which created a lot of extra clean up work. I'll be interested to see what Audrey says.

I have a Hobart handler 140 that I have used with the flux core wire (still shopping for a gas cylinder). The flux wire does create a lot of spatter but the clean up effort can be minimized by applying mig gun paste the area adjacent to the weld.

Just found this in case you want to convert your Weldpak 100 to with gas: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Lincoln-Electric-Weld-Pak-100-Wire-Feed-Welder-MIG-Conversion-Kit-K610-1/100341065?keyword=Weld+Pak+100

I bought an Eastwood MIG 135 (http://www.eastwood.com/mig-welder-110vac-135a-output.html) and have been using it for MIG welding.

I had started with a friend's Hobart Handler 140 (using flux-core). I would say that I like my Eastwood better, but really the machines are about the same, and what I probably prefer is MIG over the flux-core.

You might want to check the Lincoln and Hobart websites. Even though I prefer Miller, they are all good welders.
