Is it possible to mirror a phone to an old monitor that i just found at the garage?
So, i work with small items that need magnification, i want to use my phone's camera to zoom in on the piece with a magnifier app while being able to view it on a screen while working.
Is it possible to do it? If so, what will i need to make a DIY prototype of this? What are the parts that are required to pull this off? The materials i have are my smartphone and an old car display monitor(just the monitor).
Any ideas??

Don't know about attaching smart phone (OF UNKNOWN KIND) to monitor (OF UNKNOWN KIND).
Most people just take photographs and then upload to a pc
if you want to monitor what your looking at on a larger screen you may be better off investing a few pounds in a USB microscope and using a regular PC to monitor.

Any android smartphone. Also, is there any camera types that is not that big that can magnify and is clear(HD) that can be attached to a monitor?
I was kind of planning the camera would be abit above the workpiece so there is room to work on the small piece.

Some android phones support the MHL standard, which allows you to connect the smartphone to a TV/monitor via a MHL to HDMI cable/adapter. Support for this depends on the manufacturer / model of the phone.
The biggest issue here may be the old car display/monitor, and what kind of connectivity it has.
See here for an example of a MHL adapter: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Android-MHL-Micro-HDMI-Ad...

Unfortunately, i want the screen to be abit small just like a tablet so that it won't take too much space in the workspace. I'm not sure if there are small screens with HDMI ports?

You can get small screens with HDMI input, these are commonly used for things like in-car video entertainment systems (the kind that mount in the back of seat headrests). You can get them for around £50, you'll find lots on eBay.

If you are willing to consider alternatives to the smartphone camera and screen idea, you could use a Raspberry Pi with the PiCamera, and use the 7" Pi touchscreen

7" Pi Touchscreen Display
Pi Camera (1080p, 8MP)

Also, can the raspberry PI camera be zoomed??
Answer 4 years ago
It could be zoomed digitally (using software), but you can also change the lens on the PiCamera. Google Pi Camera Lens to see some examples. Pimoroni also stock this 12x zoom telephoto lens, though you may have some difficulty finding a variable zoom lens.
As for viewing on a SmartPhone, this is probably possibe using a remote viewer such as VNC, but I've not used it personally.

also, by "zoomed gitially (using software)" what do you mean by this??

Some phones and tablets have an HDMI micro next to the USB, or somwhere on the phone. This will allow you to directly connect it to a monitor.

look on Amazon. Lots of USB microscopes there.
Or search for smart phone microscope here to make you own

Can USB Microscopes be used at a farther distance? Because i was hoping to have the camera abit elevated on top so that i have room to work on my item.
Answer 4 years ago
Quite a few have a good working distance at moderate magnifications - Check out Amazon for USB microscopes.

alright thanks :D

ADD: Maybe around 10 inches from the workpiece to the USB microscope. Will it still magnify it from that distance?

Most phones can feed pics to a computer add a second video card to your pc and windows can display pics on the second monitor... If you have an iPhone then you will be installing iTunes...

I was hoping to use a smaller screen much like a tablet because a computer or laptop will take up some space on the workspace. any ideas?

Use a Go-Pro where you can feed real-time to a monitor.
Answer 4 years ago
that's one way of doing it. But Go-Pros kinda cost alot of money.. I was thinking of using a smartphone's camera as the magnifier that will be shown on a real-time screen/monitor. Any other ideas? :)

If you want a GoPro, try searching for those cheap knockoff brands. Should work just as well.

Is it possible to disassemble the "shell" to make it not as bulky? If im going with this direction, i'm planning to remove unnecessary parts because all i need is the Bluetooth connectivity and the camera. Would you happen to know what those parts are and what i can remove?? Thanks in advance! :)
