Is the new answers-less layout permenant? Answered

Just curious, site went down for maintenance today, and now that it's back, the answers section is gone from the title header.  Is answers going the way of the dodo bird?

I'm not a pro member, so I guess I don't have much leverage with the powers that be, and I doubt that anyone threatening to leave will make any difference.
When I first came across this site I was fascinated and had to look at it at every opportunity. I thought it was fantastic. I even made a few things and learned some stuff in the process. Then I decided to join up so I could participate. Making changes like this only makes things more difficult for the casual user and may well deter them (me) from becoming a pro user.

I feel it pertinent to post that as of this post, every reply to this thread ...is by a pro member - someone who cares about the site enough to pitch in...who-da-thought?

also people like andygadget or frollard,dedicated answers VETRANS now have trouble getting to answers

Not trouble, just annoying to find++ as stated elsewhere, there are 1/10th the new questions there were before, because its not as prominent.

IF ANSWERS IS NOT BACK UP THERE IN A WEEK I MIGHT CONSIDER LEAVING!!!!! GET IT BACK UP THERE OR ELSE I WILL BE REALLY ANGERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I doubt leaving the site will have a huge effect on their decision, but its a good thought.  "I hope its temporary"

What does paying have to do with it?  Non-paying members (even non-members) have identical access to the Answers; they are not a pro feature.

In general, if I don't pay for something, I can't complain if something I don't like happens. As soon as I pay for it, I become a consumer, and the relationship changes from supplicant and grateful freeloader.

I'm not saying answers is a pro feature. I'm just asking and expecting that things aren't changed without asking the people who pay for it.

My main gripe with the change is there are hardly any questions now - because people generally don't see the answers section.

I'd say around 1/5 to 1/10 of the new questions were new users who signed up just to write a question.  A percentage of those MUST end up staying...I think its a GREAT thing to have on the main page - convenience AND a recruitment tool.

we payed for what it was when we payed not for how it is now,it would be like buying a dvd player,loving it,and then a guy comes from the dvd player company and steals one of our favorite parts of it,say the fast forward button or the pause button,we would not have wanted to buy the dvd player if it did not come with a fast forward button,the product we bought ends up being not nearly as good as what we payed for. that is what paying has to do with it.

It's not stolen, it's not gone, it just takes a few extra clicks to get there.

For what it's worth, I agree we should have the original button back, but I don't subscribe to your logic.

Maybe they've just put it out of the way while they tweak the layout of that section?

They apparently bumped Answers to a new menu item way down at the bottom of the initial page. It's still here, but disguised/hidden...Kinda lame if  you ask me.

Out of the roughly 30 questions posed since "The Change", 7 are from "new" people.

Yep, I used it all the time - BRING IT BACK!

(Also, the mouseover preview isn't working for me on the 'explore' page - Just after I'd spent ages making an animated gif too.  (Haven't proven this on another machine yet so it may possibly me me.)
