Is there a specific rod to be used for welding aluminum together? Answered

I need to weld a 3/8 inch thick piece of aluminum together. I was wondering if there was a specific rod to be used. I have 2011 1/8 rods.
Just putting it out there. I never had to work with aluminum.

What's 2011 rod ? Presumably an aluminium rod ? Do you know what the parent metal is ? Yes, you should try and match rod to job.

Then absolutely not ! You have to weld with the same (or very close) as the parent metal !!

There are some special "stick" welding rods - I found 'em on Google, but you'll need close to 220 Amps I should think for 3/8 on aluminium

What method? Gas, tig, mig or arc. Alum. is hard to weld since it tends to melt instead of puddle. You should use a rod made for aluminum.

I am arc welding. I was just thinking if anyone has had more experience with aluminum and can suggest a rod for the job. It is going to be a butt joint.
