Is there any way to edit an Ible without "spamming" your Subscribers? Answered

I dislike that fact that a simple Instructable's "edit" causes the Ible to be re-sent to every Subscriber when the changes are saved.

I almost feel like I'm spamming my Subscribers... and that's NOT a good thing.

Can the programmers somehow tweak the script/code so this doesn't happen?

There's not a way to do this at the moment. Any changes you make will cause your subscribers to get an email.

I've emailed the right person with this as a feature request. In hte past I too have thought a tick box to stop subscription callouts would be useful, but I'd imagine it'd be fairly low down a list of things to be developed.

"... fairly low on the list..." ;-(

Bummer. This makes me sad... but it probably makes my subscribers even sadder. ;-/

Thanks for letting me know, though.

But... If I'm subscribed to myself won't i get an email when I edit or upload a new project?

Oops, I didn't know my subscribers get an email, that's a problem for me...

If you've got a bunch of edits to do, plan in advance and do them all at once.

OR,

You could try switching the project to "private", which removes it from the lists, doing all the edits and then making the project public again. I don't know if that would work, but it seems a reasonable guess to me.

ugh... I've been having Instructable's "issues" all day.

The site won't let me stay signed in, for starters.

I don't think I was even able to make the ible private. Here's a screen shot of the message I got when I tried.

lol... I predict cg will be getting bacon-spammed in the near future. ;-D

I've been getting messages about slow scripts.

No, the messages were pop-ups, and much shorter;

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: https://www.instructables.com/static/js/prototype.js:5550

The number at the end of the message varies, though.

I'm going to try switching a project to private and see what happens when I edit.

Fingers crossed... and thank you, too! ;-)

I person shouldn't subscribe if it bothers them; it's a lazy thing because if a person was really interested in your stuff they'd remember to look for it.

lol... who you calling "lazy"? ;-D

This site is enormous. I don't know how I'd keep track of my favorite authors if I didn't subscribe.

I just look at all the new stuff (or none of it if I'm having a busy-day), I suppose it works as a kind of "filter" or "feed".

I follow a number of people and I always want to know if there are any changes to their Instructables. I don't think that your subscribers will be annoyed by your editing. I edit mine all the time to respond to suggestions and comments.

Trust me... my edits are boring.

The vast majority of the time, you probably wouldn't even notice the changes.

Making a change once and a while is fine (imo), but I kinda agree with you when some members are making 20 edits in a half hour, and you get a subscription update each time.... (it's worse when the 20 edits are to the same ible). o_0
