Who'd a thunk it?

Climate change is making sheep shrink!

Cold weather tends to select for larger-bodied mammals - polar bears, mammoths, walruses etc. Larger, stringer individuals are more likely to survive long enough to reproduce. The same is true for wild sheep.

A new report in Science shows that Scotland's warming climate has allowed smaller-bodied, shorter-legged sheep to survive - a 5% change in only 22 years.

The trend seems to be continuing, "But it's too early to say if, in 100 years, we will have chihuahuas herding pocket-sized sheep."
