Joule thief 12VDC 3A? Answered

Is it possible to build a joule thief to run a netbook? I mean feeding the circuit with a 9V radio battery and to have an output of 12VDC 3A.

Not surprisingly the answer is no - as below.

If your plan could work we could all be running our houses off a couple of 9 volt batteries.

A joule thief is good for pulling 0.005 amps at 3-4 volts. It's the reason its called a joule thief. A joule is a remarkably small amount of energy :)

You can probably find a boost converter that will do the voltage conversion, but a 9v radio battery won't ...ever...output 36 watts.
