Le chateliers princible? Answered

I'm taking chemistry and in class our teacher showed us two reactions, one called the blue bottle and the other called the traffic light. these reactions are in equilibrium so the reactants are forming products and the products are forming reactants at the same rate, however after a certain period of time the reaction will finish. in the blue bottle experiment the mixture is a clear liquid with methylene blue as an indicator, when the mixture is agitated the mixture turns blue and after a period of time the mixture turns clear again. i thought this was a cool experiment and i think it would be cool if it was possible to create a mixture with methylene blue (or the others like the traffic light experiment have) that can be sealed off and will never complete or wont be having a true chemical reaction but will still have the desired effect.

With any chemical reaction there is a given amount of time before it will run out. The chemicals will eventually be used up. If there is no chemical reaction then there is no effect.

is it possible to set something up that will have the same effect that will last long enough that it would be worth while to seal it in a bottle? i understand that even in equilibrium eventually this reaction will stop and without a reaction then there is no effect but i have seen stuff like this before being sealed in a bottle, even if the mixture had to be heated or something of the sort for the reaction to "reset" this would be a very nice idea

With some chemical mixtures, mixing them together in a sealed container does nothing. They won't react till an outside element is added be it such as heat, cold, air, or light. But as with all chemical reactions they have a limited life span. Some can be 'reset', but even that can only be done a limited amount of times. Such is the case with a rechargeable battery.
