Well if you ran you computer like I run my laptops, you would probably get the intended battery life out of it. But like pretty much everyone that ownes a computer, it's filled with useless crap software. Unnesesary anti-virus software aswell bums computers up. If you have norton antivirus, I would strongly suggest uninstalling it and I could get you a professional copy of AVG antivirus. It has very very low cpu and memory "usage". I have win xp pro, ie 7 and avg and I have not ever gotten anything bad, no spyware, malware, worms, and the latter, viruses. That being said. If you can run your laptop idle at around 2-10% when there isn't any programs open, maybe msn and wmp or a web page. Then there isn't a whole lot you can do. Turn down the brightness of the screen when it's unplugged, trust me it does make a big big difference. My mac ibook g4 can run 6 hours with the screen barely or completely off, 3-4 if I'm just listening to music on it and change the song once or twice. Discs in the drive too, if you're done with a disc, take it out. There isn't much more other than utilites your laptop might have came installed with to underclock the processor or otherwise "step it down" to save power (macs have this feature buit in, however it is automatic and is an advantage macs have over pc laptops. Other than that, if you're having crappy battery life, your battery is either "pooched" or your laptop is a dell or some other junk that has a badly designed power system. What model is it?
