Links in articles should open a new tab Answered

When links in projects are clicked on, the browser immediately takes you to that page. This loses the Instructable topic unless you page back to it. There should be a way to set the site up so that links open new tabs. I know because I moderate and manage a programming forum.

Thanks!

I feel the same way, I don't want people leaving the Instructable when they click on a link. I choose the check box to open link in new tab (it should be the default not the undefault!) and when I publish my links leave the Instructable. I edit and they are all unset. I set the checkboxes again, I even go back and make sure they are set. Publish and they go back to unset. Seems like a bug to me. If I am doing something wrong, please tell me what it is.

This is a browser function, and should be left to the user's discretion. If you want a new tab, your browser has that capability (right click, control click, pull-down menu, whatever). Some users want separate windows, some want tabs, and some want a linear progression so they can use Back/Forward properly.

Alternatively you can just hold down ctrl (Mac key) and click a link to open in a new window/tab.

If I own a site, the LAST thing I want people to do is LEAVE it because I sent them away. A new tab would allow the reader to go back instantly and not have to wait for the Instructable page to reload and scroll down to where they left off. Mostly links lead to parts and parts lead to orders and more clicks on more pages and then going back is even more difficult.

If I want a link to open in a new tab I click down on the scroll wheel, but not much help if your not using a mouse

in the source editor add the attribute target="_blank" to your link and it will do so.
