Logoff upon finding ible. Answered

When I follow the link from the news letter to the Oklahoma Suspension Bridge ible I am not allowed to log on.  (I tried several times and was sent to the "I forgot" section, which I used and just entered all my old information.)  I use the login thing up at the top but it just won't register from there.  When I go to the home page and login and then try to go to the bridge, it shows me as logged out, but when I click home again, it has me logged in.  I haven't tried any other ibles yet but will here in a bit and let you know of the outcome.

I tried several other ibles and all of them work fine. I am using Safari 5.0.2 (6533.18.5) which has never been a problem in the past. I just cleared my cookie jar here recently ( ~5 days ) ago after upgrading to the new version and downloading the security updates. When I went back to the Bridge ible to see if there was any more weirdness, the same thing happened with my login status. I ignored it and clicked on the next step, which I shouldn't have to do since I have "view all steps on one page" as my default setting. My login status changed to "you" (normal) and I was able to read the rest of the ible, though without seeing the whole thing on one page. I tried it several times with the same result. It seems to be the opening page of that ible alone that has given me the login trouble.
I just tried it again this morning with the same results. Again, no other instructables
are giving me this trouble.

From your description I expect this is your browser caching the OK Suspension Bridge instructable. Because the URL is the same whether you are logged in or logged out, your browser can't tell that the page should look different after you've logged in, so often it simply uses the previously downloaded version of the page for speed. Next time this happens, try doing a hard refresh and see if you get the logged in version. (Here's Wikipedia on browser caching and refreshing for various browsers)

It's possible that the login issue you mention is also just the browser caching the page you first went to, although I can't be sure without knowing more details about how it's not letting you log on.  If a hard refresh doesn't fix it, reply here with as much detail as you can supply for what exactly happens when you click the 'login' link in the upper right and I'll see if I can figure it out.

I think you're right: it is the browser caching the first page. I went directly here (right here at Community: Help: Bugs) right after I logged onto my home page. After reading your post I tested your theory by logging onto some random instructable (about raspberry solar vibrating monkeys. or something.) and then went to the OK Bridge thing. Shore 'nuff, it displayed normally with no login weirdness. I did not try emptying the cache which, from what I understand of Safari, IS a refresh, because it was easier to just jump to the page through the search function. And I was curious. So thanks. And what is that thing you(?) have on in that pic. Looks like a leopard skin Batwing skydiving flight suit. If it is, I want one.

That's sounds pretty weird. I'm really not sure what might be causing that.  Does it only happen when you click the link from the newsletter, or if you search for it on google or here, and click, does it give you the same problem?

.  That sounds a lot like a problem with your browser. The longer it goes with no one else reporting the same problem, the more likely that is so.
.  I'd try clearing my browser cache.
.  If that didn't fix it, I'd try clearing cookies for Instructables.
.  If that doesn't fix it, then maybe the problem's not on your end.

Could you edit your text above and specify which browser and operating system you use (include the versions)? That will help the Staff (on Monday) isolate the problem, if there is one.
