Looking for Makers to do Research Interview
Hello! I'm doing research on people who make things (artists, hackers, crafters, etc.). I'm a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon and an intern this summer at Yahoo Research. I'm talking to people about one of their projects where they tried to make something new, something they hadn't tried before. The interview is about how the project got started, where they found helpful information, interesting things that happened, how they felt about it at the end, etc. The goal of this research is to understand the role of online resources in the process of making. Would you be interested in participating? The interview is about an hour or so. If you're in the bay area, we can meet in a convenient place for a casual conversation about your work and experiences. If you're not in the area or that's not convenient, we can chat on the phone or over IM. We have gift certificates to thank participants for their time. Contact me via instructables or email me at goodatmakingstuff@yahoo.com with any questions at all.

my husband is a full time tinkerer. He just built a dutch-style bakfiets for hauling kids and groceries. He doesn't do computer stuff like blogs or this site. But he's more than willing to do interviews. Done quite a few in the past.
here's his bike. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3120/2662723830_81682c8742_o.jpg

I'm listening ... and I'm focusing on local interviews this week and next. As someone suggested, an email survey could be the best bet for those outside the bay area. So I'm pursuing that idea. Thanks for your ideas and responses.

Right now I'm making a snow machine and a fog machine, completely from scratch. I'm researching on making them, but its mostly taking a chance.

Im several time zones out also, but i would be more than happy to converse over im/skype. Also it mite be a good idea to do a email survey which can be filled out then returned (as a word file or something)

I agree with Kiteman, as I am even about 3-4 hours out of cycle timewise with the west coast, and although I haven't published many -ibles here, I have done a far amount of making/remaking over the years. For instance: Digital Recorder Hack

I'm several time-zones out of sync with you, but if you want to PM me questions, I'm available (although I'll be very offline most of the weekend, at Cub Camp). If they're not too personal, I could even do it in this thread.
