Maker Faire This Weekend! Answered

Is anyone going to be even close to Austin this weekend? If so, drop by our booth and say "hi" on Saturday or Sunday. We'd love to talk to you and give you some stickers. Our stuff is already heading out on a big ol' truck, but Canida and I will be heading out later this week to see what Austin, Texas has to offer and bask in the Texas atmosphere. Hope to see you there.

Are there any future plans for taking the Faires international?

They're working on it! If you've got a particular venue in mind, MAKE would probably like to hear about it.

How big does it have to be? The only venues I have personal potential access to are a small scout hut and an average-size school hall, and I am far from central in the UK. If it needs to be larger, I'd have to do some research.

Huge: in the range of 20,000-50,000 people. Here they've been using fairgrounds with enormous exhibit halls.

Alternative thought - how many people tend to turn up at one of Squid Labs' / Instructables' Show and Tells?

I would've thought it more depends on how many people would be going? (estimated) -Would it be able to done in the open air? in a playing field.. etc...

In my area, there is the York Fairgrounds which is quite large (but I am not sure exactly how large) and then nearby William Kain County Park’s 1675 acres which includes two beautiful lakes... :-)

Like maybe some crazy far-off land where people play with steam-powered doodads and whiznots? Hmm... sounds kinda made-up to me. :)

They seriously need to bring the Faire to the KY State Fair Grounds. I would be so happy! Plus, can you really pass up all those mullets?!

I'll totally be there with my painting robot! We've been painting non-stop to practice. I'm leaving Wednesday night for the 16 hour drive (with my sister). Wish us luck!

Thanks! I'm a little nervous about getting my robot to work on command all weekend (it's kind of different from hanging out in my kitchen making masterworks) but I think it'll be okay. Yeah, it's a long, long way to go for me, but I'm hoping it'll be worth the trip. And I haven't done anything even resembling a vacation in years.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to letting people see it, and I'm hoping to let random people contribute to the 'creative process'. Plus, like I said to Canida, it'll be fun to meet some of the people I now know as icons....

Awesome! We'll meet you there. Instructables is Maker #614- we'll be hanging out next to Popular Science.

I'll be #674, which may well be fairly close to you. I can't wait to meet the people behind the icons ;-)

Darn! There should be a Maker Faire in Philly or New York City. Maybe even Baltimore.

Well, PN vs TX -- not really that big of a deal if you're in the UK. If it was in PN, I might go... but no...
