Me likey the new header layout. Answered

Ok you guys, the new update rocks, especially the new header layout, and the profile page featured banners. On the header, when "Contests" and "Community" were right next to each other, I would always click on "Contests" when I wanted the other. The renaming of "Community" to "Forums" and moving it over is great. I always missed the featured banners on profile pages, and now that they're back, I love instructables even more (again!). And the new contest page layout is great. That's one less page I have to wait to load. On the "Awesome prizes" tab, though, you may want to insert some pictures. And I also like the relocation of the search bar. Overall, a very, very awesome update. Nice job, instructables team, give yourselves a pat on the back. You deserve it.

It was one of the complaints when Google search was first introduced too. No doubt we are all wrong, and the new system is actually wonderful, but Meh.

The new Google-driven search is defnitely not wonderful. The filtering capabilities are obscure (you have to know both Google's special search syntax, and Instructables' URL system), and there are no sorting capabilities at all. What is supposedly "better" is that the Google index is more complete, where the old-style home-brew search missed a lot of known results.

What is driving the compulsion to make it impossible to view RECENT posts REGARDLESS of category? Honestly! I am interested in all things and don't appreciate having to navigate several categories when i was once able to just choose "recent."

The "compulsion" is that the top-level page is meant to draw in new users who are not already familiar with the site. By showing a selection of Featured I'bles in the different categories, new, unfamiliar users can see both the breadth of projects here, and also are guided to look at the "best" ones (in the opinion of the Feature Team).

Regular users of the site have presumably already either bookmarked or added to their profile Shortcuts the pages they especially like (like Answers, global Recent, the K'nex Forum, the old-style "graphical" search, whatever).

Put it in your shortcuts. Click the word Shortcuts in the masthead, which will take you to your profile configuration. Select RECENT from the options for shortcuts entries. Now it'll be there for you, in the pop-up menu from Shortcuts, whatever page you happen to be viewing.

Yeah, they followed my suggestion to rename Community to forums. Like the new layout!
