Mechanical timers - wind up mechanism Answered

can anyone advise what is the maximum length of time the mechanism on a mechanical hand-wind timer can last for (approx range will do) i.e between 60/70 minutes, 3/4 hours.

The best answer is "it depends".

It depends on the spring, how it is geared, what it is running etc.

The clock on my mantle is hand-wound, and it runs for eight days. Hand-wound toys run for about a minute.

And if you replace the spring with a weight system, it may run much longer than that, depending on the weights and the pulley system and so on.. (That's a very traditional design; many mechanical clocks have used it.)
