My Food Saver seals, and the Vacuum pumps sounds like it is working, but the air is not being sucked out of the bag.? Answered

The unit has been working well for 10 years, and suddenly now will not remove the air from the bag.  The sealing feature works fine, but no suction action during the sealing process.

10 years, old you got good use out of it.

Do you know how to open it?

It is likely 2 things.

1. Dirt in the vacuum line in which case you take it apart and clean it.

2. The air pump is a diaphragm pump and the diaphragm is worn out. You can't get a new one and I have never succeeded in repairing a worn out diaphragm.

Thank you Joseph, for the reply and information. My husband opened up the unit and checked out the pump and tubing. Nothing seemed plugged, and the pump definitely was working and there were no visible tears in the diaphram. So, we closed it back up, and low and behold, it worked just fine. I am hoping for another 10 years of use, but if it does fail again, at least we know what to look for and what to replace. I appreciate your taking time to respond.

You are welcome.

Funny how that happens sometimes, you open up the thing, can't find anything wrong with it, put it back together and it works.
