My birthday wishlist Answered

(*Hopes new topic draws people in...*)

In lieu of this (is this correct usage?), I was hoping I could also be helped. I'd also like a hovercar... but I think you need a licence...

Hmm -- I'm thinking electronic components -- but thats hard for them to get... (They'd get me 1,000 1 Ohm resistors >_>_

what does lieu mean -- anyway? is this correct usage?

"lieu" is a french word. It mainly means "place".

"in lieu of something" means "in place/instead of something".

When is your bd ? =o)

Its the 3rd (Nov.) :D

Thanks for the etymology -- interesting
I had a *feeling* of what it meant -- but I wasn't absolutely sure. I could only define it recursively ;P

(Fixed a major typo in the title...)

Woah, you're only 14? Anyways, what's with ponies lately? Just last night Josh and I decided we would collect donations to get ponies for the ibles staff...cause they deserve them.

So you're older than 14! You really just need to say how old you are. :P

You seem older than you are to me, given the whole programming/scripting thing and using Linux at a more advanced level. Take it as a compliment =]

. In Firefox. double-click on a word to select it (don't worry about the space it grabs, this will be ignored), then right-click and choose Define <selected word>"

I don't know. I am having troubles figuring out what I will be able to afford for myself in the upcoming few weeks before my b-day. That laser cutter sound nice, but the taxes would bankrupt me LoL

A gift certificate to your favorite electronic parts dealer?

American Science & Surplus looks pretty cool...theres a gift certificate to them as a prize for the halloween contest...see if theres anything there you like.

A copy of 300 (everybody needs one of those)

I have gotten a lot of stuff from them, but be careful, some things are just not as cool as they look in the catalog.

Well, that and you have to watch descriptions too. I bought some radiation detection "devices" only to discover that they were blocks that reacted to radiation and needed to be sent away for evaluation.....to a place that no longer existed. So, normal things are ok, but watch some of the weird stuff.

Are they good about returns for stuff like that? ...I'd like to see the contents of one of those mystery boxes..

I never tried to return it, because it was exactly as described. It was my fault for not thinking about what was written about it. If damaged (when it is not described as such) they are pretty good about it. I never got one of those, although I would like to also. I have always been afraid of getting a box of really old stuff that guys at Ham fests "give away" LOL
