Most of those car chargers have a glass fuse in the neck of the adapter. Make sure it's not just blown and not broken.

Whatever you do, do not throw away your old charger, because your broken charger has the special funny-shaped connector that will fit your iPhone(r).
I suspect the rest of the charger is just a 12 volt to 5 volt DC-to-DC converter, and those are easy to find, an that the fix may be as easy as grafting your old funny-shaped connector onto a new 12V-to-5V convertor.
Although I don't know for sure that the iPhone(r) wants to charge from a 5 volt supply, and the reason I don't know for sure is because I am unfamiliar with the iPhone(r) because I won't buy anything made by Apple(r).

Where were the components in your computer made?
Did you know that IBM sold their PC line to a Chinese company? Its called Lenovo.
