My dislikes on the new "browse" page. Answered

Well first of all, I'm all for changing "explore" to "browse".  I like that.

What I DON'T like is the really huge thumbnails and how there are only 12 instructables per page, as opposed to 20 in the last layout.  I probably wouldn't even post this topic if there was an option to change this layout to an older form, but alas, there is none I can see (unless it's in the settings or someplace I overlooked).  Most people who look at this site don't have vision problems and thus don't need bigger icons.

That is all.

I HAVE A PERSONAL QUESTION.........   HOW DO I STOP THIS!      I JUST WANT TO SEE PROJECTS.   I AM NOT INTERESTED IN YOUR OPINIONS OR COMMENTS......   I HAVE ENOUGH OF MY OWN

I've been gone for a few days, but at least today (2 Apr 2010) the Browse page seems to be back with the 5 x 4 display of nice "little" square thumbnails.

Thanks for the "clickable version".

Once upon a time, that was a visible option for all users.  There were two little icons next to the featured/recent/etc. and you could switch between the tiled and list views.  Perhaps that option could be restored?

I seem to only get 8 instructables.
two rows of three and then a row of 2.
I am using Mac OS X 10.5 and Firefox 3.6
But it might have something to do with the fact that my screen is only 7".
Damn Netbooks...

Nope, that's exactly what I see (reply is below; from yesterday.)

Windoz desktop, FF 3.6.2, 26'' LCD monitor.

Never mind--that missing instructable is an ad.

I turned on adblock a couple months ago due to a ton of popups...

I'm only getting 1 across and 7 down.
I think mine is wierd, its just like the bar on the right, but the pictures are slightly bigger, and the description goes to the end of the page.

That's quite weird.  Are you using Firefox, or a different browser?

Well, there's your problem.  IE doesn't follow all of the standards.

I agree, I like the older way better. I've just switched to a netbook and the big thumbnails will wear out my scrolling panel (j/k). But it is nicer to see more projects on one page. Less clicking and easier to keep up with all the recent ones.

I get a 3x3 matrix, but the upper-right corner is always empty. So I see 8 total.

Before the current change, usually two squares in the upper right were dropped.

Using Firefox 3.6.2 (which updated just today...) in Windoz. But the missing square(s) has been happening for 2+ months.

I agree, I would rather have more small projects per page than fewer large ones.

Thumbnails are supposed to be just that. Big pictures are fine, but while we're still allowing crap to be published it doesn't work right.

I'm with DJ on this one.  While I do think the thumbnails in "5-across" were a bit small, these are just overwhelming.  Perhaps there's an intermediate size that might be considered?  Hmmm....3....5....what comes between them?

Screen shot?  It was 4-across and 4-down for a long time, then became 5-across and 4-down, as DJ says.  Now it's 3-across and 4-down, with really big pictures.

In about 3.14159 years we will have 1/2 across and 4 down.

Haha, that's not what I meant  :)

You had said quote, "  Hmmm....3....5....what comes between them?"
I said "I'm pretty sure it's 6" as a joke.

We used to have 4 across and 4 down, I noticed it changed to 5 across after I went pro.

You see 'em better, but for thumbnails I prefer smaller.
