9 times out of 10, power cycling the wireless hardware will fix the problem. If that doesn't work, jiggle the plugs.

.  I do tech support for a lot of friends and family (and friends of family) and I say "Shut it down, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on. If that doesn't work, call me back" a lot. :)

Me too, and I'm consistenly amazed at how effective "jiggle the plug" really is. I once helped fix a mainframe outage with that very phrase.

Rumor has it that one major computer manufacturer's standard answer to "It isn't doing anything" was:

1) Turn off the machine.
2) Unplug the power cord from the outlet
3) Unplug the power cord from the machine.
4) Clean the contacts and the end of the plug, and at the back of the machine, with a pencil eraser.
5) Connect the power cord to the machine.
6) Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet. (Oh, before I forget -- have you tried plugging a light into that outlet, just to be sure it is delivering adequate power?)
7) Turn the machine on.
Did that help? Is the power light on?

This was considered a more polite formulation than "Have you plugged it in and turned it on?" It gives the customer the comfortable illusion that the customer service technician may not  realize they forgot that basic step.

Some wifi routers can be set to not broadcast an identified signal unless a known computer is trying to log on.  This can be changed thru a logged on computer going to setup and setting it to broadcast.  If nobody can get in you will have to connect via a patch cable.

What kind of equipment is it?
