Need help with long distanct USB run [~ 100 meters] Answered

I have extend/retractable boom that extends almost 100M when full extended. I know I can not get a USB signal that far out. I am thinking of possible converting the USB signal to Fiber-Optic signal if possible.

I need help on both ends of the cable.

If we check the modding community we find lots of directional antennas for WiFi, like the famous pringles can mod.

I would try to use a set of two antennas as a replacement for the BT antennas.

Since the boom does not change direction it should work if a good BT system and antenna is used.

100 meters is the limit for common ethernet, too. This usb to ethernet extender set is only good to 150 feet, less than 1/2 what you seek.

It might be possible to double the range by adding an ethernet extender in the middle somewhere.

I suspect you will still have problems at that distance though. The timing signals will likely get messed up. You will have collisions on the network at that distance.

That's why I want to pass the signal over fiber optics. I do have have luxury of a extender because of space available. The cable in wound on a take up reel. Which means the signal has to go throw slip ring. So I think the way to it is pass the signal as Ethernet or Usb throw the slip rings, Then convert to fiber optics on reel it self. I not looking for high speed signal. USB 1 would fine.

I guess I am a really bad types.

I started a line with "The microprocessor will monitoring".

It should read:

The microprocessor will be monitoring a wing deicing unit. Also will controlling heaters an shake motors. All this data is sent to the main bird computer for data logging. As will as telling the deicing unit when to turn on.

I don't know a thing about Ethernet. As for the microprocessor I don't know because we are in the design process. We are extremely open minded for any ideas. The microprocessor will monitoring

Is there any libraries that does all the hand shaking and data extraction from the Ethernet protocol?

What USB device are you wanting to use? Fiber isn't going to be an economical solution. May want to consider Ethernet. Whatever the device is can be connected to a Raspberry Pi which can then allow the device to be shared over a network connection allowing your computer to connect to the Pi over eithernet.

This the boom I'm working on. As you can see it's to long for any reliable USB signal to get to the end.
