I dunno. I think the degree of danger is a bit exaggerated. At the speeds involved, going too far means you have a bus with its chassis wedged on the edge of the bridge, needing a tow-truck to get it to budge in either direction.
Looked like a game-show set-up, hence the count-down. Probably somebody in the studio got points or cash if he did it within the time allowed.
That's why some of the parts looked CGI - it was a studio-lit situation with cameras on remote booms.

The danger was financial - imagine the cost of unbending the underparts if it dropped off the edge.
