PSI Question Answered

I just built a fairly large air cannon, and I want to know how much psi the air chamber can take before it blows. The air chamber is made of 3in. diameter 5ft long pvc pipe.I would appreciate the help.

pvc is good up to 200 psi. I have three air cannons and they are perfectly safe to shoot at about 120 psi.

If I were you I would rebuild the whole thing with pressure rated tubing.May I suggest sch 80.

I could, but there would be no way I could seperate the parts. So I might as well build anoter one. What would a safe preasure be for a non preasure rated tubing?

> What would a safe preasure be for a non preasure rated tubing? . There ain't no such critter. . . My personal rule of thumb is to figure out how much pressure I'm working with and get pipe/tubing rated 2-2.5x that. If you are using a fast opening valve, you probably want even more safety margin.

Well that is disturbing.I just checked the side of the PVC pipe, and it says (not ment for preasure).I have already filled it with 20 psi and it seemed okay.

It should say on the pipe. Assuming the joints are good.
