Private Publishing and Messaging - feature idea. Answered

A repeated thought about publishing private projects, and PMing in general:

It would be good to be able to mass mail a link to a private project, especially "to everybody I subscribe to" and "to everybody who subscribes to me".

Is such a thing technically possible?

If it is possible, is it likely? I feel it would make an excellent inducement to turn pro ("features not content").

(I know this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I don't recall seeing a response.)

The following is probably the only reason for withholding the ability to mass mail: sent from: nepheron when: Jul 21, 2009. 8:45 AM subject: Homemade Micro Cannon! Have you ever wanted to build a cannon? I have this new Instructable out called "Shiver me Timbers! Pocket sized hand cannon!" and I think you'd like it :) I entered it into the pocket sized contest and i really want to win. Last time I checked I was 3 voted behind the top 'ible so far. Please rate it and vote it if you like! Thanks so much! -Nepheron

That would be a self-regulating form of spam - if you could only mass-mail your subscribers, abuse of the mass-mail system would cost you subscribers.

True enough...um, is there a way to unsubscribe? I thought there had been, but now I can't find it (I accidentally subscribed to myself ;-)

Look at your subscription list - there's a small x beside each name for removal purposes.

Ah, took me a bit to find the particular list (on the left had side of the page), thanks much.

I believe, as KJ has mentioned, that it is entirely possible.....they may hesitate if there is any danger of someone paying for a monthly account just to spam all members the person managed to subscribe to. Granted, it is much more work to do this than to simply mail out spam in email, but some people are very industrious.

Personally, I'd be more interested in mailing those who subscribed to me - if they've gone to the trouble of subscribing to me, then I'd like to repay them with first look at projects etc.

We have mass mail capacity if I remember, it'd be a case of making a bit of code to add our subscribers/subscribees...
