Received Instructable.com request for my physical address to qualify to receive an animated holiday card. Is this Legit? Why know physical address for this? Anyone else get one of these notices? Answered

I received a notice from Instructables.com with request that I identify my physical address to qualify to receive an automated greeting card...???  Is this legit? Why do they need to know my physical address? This really sounds odd to me.  Anyone else get one of these kinds of notices?  I really LOVE Instructables.com   Its awesome fun for those who like to do projects not just talk about them.

We give out Instructable Halloween cards annually, these are real postcards that we send to your house. If you requested one from our forum post then we'll send you a form to fill out so we can mail it to you. This is the same process we use to request your information when you win a prize.

We destroy your address information after the mail has been sent.

Did you leave a comment on the thread below?

If you did, HQ will be using an automated system to gather postal addresses to which they will deliver cards.

Your address is not kept on file by HQ, which is why they have to ask every time they do something like this.

I think that was for the Halloween post cards they're sending out. You should have gotten it as a PM here on I'bles, as I did.

These are actual physical cards (pieces of paper, if you remember what that stuff is) upon which they will place a stamp (a kind of "money" which tells the Post Office (a government-run delivery service) that they have paid to have the card delivered to you).

Assuming that you have a physical address with a "mail box" (either an actual box with a cover, or a covered hole in your door), then you will receive one of these paper "post cards" placed in that box.

If you win a contest to claim a prize, instructables sends out a link to fill out your physical address. They will do the same for the instructables Halloween card which you had to request to be sent a notification in that forum topic. I don't think they have any animated cards. You might want to send a copy of what you got to service@instructables.com so they can take proper action on it.
