Repurpose parts Answered

In the last 6 months, I had a 40" hd tv, a modem, a 27" monitor and a laptop  all quit on me for various reasons.  I'm wondering if I take them apart if there are any parts that are worth salvaging.  I have only a basic understanding of electronics but love to tinker and want to take up arduino projects.

What would you salvage if it were you?

Depends on the TV. The newer ones have pretty much nothing in them. Only really cool LED's (spectrum, not awesomeness, that is), and maybe a power supply that you can salvage. Other than that, a ton of useless PCB's (for me), sheet metal, and all sorts of diffusers.

The old ones had tons of high wattage resistors, huge electrolytic capacitors, big heat sinks, etc...

I think I've taken apart 3 flat screen Televisions in my life. Only one of them was a really good old one!

I would be more concerned to see if the electrical system in your house is worth salvaging. If all those electronics failed, your mains power may be faulty causing them to break.
