Rig something to prevent toddlers from reaching over table/counter lip
I'm trying to think of how to rig a simple form, maybe using an old refrigerator box, which would prevent a toddler from reaching over the lip of a table or counter. Does anyone have any ideas for this?

another approach is to tether his wrists to his belt, such that he can reach something shoulder high, but not over his head.

Huh. While we're at it I could tie his feet together to make it easier to catch him when he grabs something I need to get back quickly!

good idea. like hobbling a horse.

only problem with that is the kid cannot raise his hand to let the teacher know he has to go to the bathroom. Solve one problem but create another...

Is this the toddler standing on the floor trying to get something on a table or is the toddler seated and the table and dropping things overboard? They do have things that are stove guards/shields, IKEA might have one or do a search, they are just flat strips of metal bent in a U shape to fit the perimeter and hinged at the back side or wall. You can flip them up when not needed or quickly drop them in place. You can make this out of stiff cardboard however high you like if you do not need to worry about it being near a flame. Good luck.

Thanks CD,
The toddler is on the ground, reaching for things that are on the table. I'll do a search for stove guards and see if it sparks any ideas!
