Sensors Answered

I would like to know if anyone here at this site has created or seen or heard of using sensors inside or outside the house to warn you of intruders? If you have any information/site/idea on how to go a bouts using sensors in that manner please let me know. Only serious responses welcomed. I am not trying to be funny/sarcastic/ignorant etc , just had this idea that someone somewhere has done this project before. Thanks. AL.

Like Catlinsdad says, there are lots of options with sensors. You can use magnetic sensors installed on the door frame and door (or window frame and window) to sense if they've been opened. You'd also want to use infrared motion detectors, that you could trigger on and off when you're not worried about people. In all honesty, you'd be best buying a security system though, as there's usually a lot more features offered by companies than what you'll be able to implement (i.e. alerting you with a phone call and explaining what the sensors have picked up, phoning the police or dispatching their own security). Just a thought.

Most alarm systems use a sensor of some type to let you know if an intruder is in the detection zone. The sensors could range from knowing a window or door is open, the window glass has been broken, detection of sounds or movement in an area, weight or pressure sensors, light sensors, etc. You can build your own system with a microprocessor controller like an Arduino, attach various sensors for input and trigger lights or sound warnings. Just put the words alarm systems or sensors in the search box at the very top of the page. Good luck.
