Seriously... Answered

Okay check it out. Recently i've had an interest in learning to play the trumpet, and i wanna know: is it difficult? I'm a player of the bass guitar, mandolin, guitar, ukulele, and a bit of harmonica, so ya see i have no brass experience.

Trumpet, once the correct manner of blowing is hit upon, is both fun and relatively easy. I play/ed both trumpet and the cornet.

I can get a decent sound out of a hunting horn, although I can't actually play notes. As I keep telling #1 son, who claims to be learning the trombone, the main this is practice.

As with all with all things, i suggest practice. But a good starting point is to have a quick go with one, see how it is. Also, please try to add a more descriptive title on your future forum topics.

The only reason my topic title was so broad is because if i saw such a title i'd click on it. So its really weird logic, and i don't do such things often.

That's why I don't like them. Trying to draw people in whom are not interested, you will probably get less people following the link also.

Learning any new instrument should be easy, it's the mastering of it that is hard. Just looking at brass instruments in the music store, they seem a bit pricey to own. I guess you can also rent them. Are you taking this up on your own or joining the school band? I think brass instruments makes your lips feel weird because that is where the sound is generated. Listen to the greats, you might end up like Statchmo, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis or Maynard Ferguson. I don't know if you will end up with puffy cheeks though. Good luck.

Well, my recent listening of ska has only fed my interest i have for the trumpet. But i found one that musicians friend offers for $200. Might not be that great but it might work for just giving it a try

. Yep. Knowing how to play other instruments will help (a lot) with the basics, but after that, it's practice, practice, practice. . According to all the horn players I know, learning how to "flap" your lips properly is the hardest part. The usually spent quite a few hours just blowing into the mouthpiece before they actually tried playing the thing. . It's difficult to practice quietly, as you can with most stringed instruments. I had to leave the house a few times when NachoDaughter was learning how to play the trombone. :)
