Service that automates ordering all the parts for your Instructable? Answered

Hey everyone,

Sorry to spam the forum; just had a quick question. I am thinking of building a web-based tool that would allow you to drop the bill of materials from an Instructable in, and then other people could order everything at once when they wanted to build your kit.

Do you think you would use something like this?

What if it didn't have that feature, but it was just a web-based bill of materials builder where you can keep a nice-looking list, with sources, of all the parts?

Thanks!
Justin

It's a nice idea, but would it cope with users in very dispersed countries (USA, UK, Australia, India...)?

Hm, good point. I think initially it would just be targeted toward US users (since that is where I'm based), but I don't see any reason we couldn't expand that over time.

Do you happen to have an opinion about a simple web-based BOM by itself, without this feature? Would be interested to know what you think!

Thanks for the feedback in the meantime, it's much appreciated!

I've nothing against it, as a concept, but I wouldn't use it personally, since I generally use recycled or scrap materials.

I'd have an issue with it if a small number of suppliers were favoured by the system, unless there was a commission being paid to the author of the project or to the site.

Hm, OK. Thanks. This "recycled / scrap materials" issue is coming up a lot, that's really useful for me to know.

Thanks again for the feedback.
