Site update? Answered

What happened to the instructables site? I can't find anything, no "recent" "featured" "topics" or "question" good luck finding this post.

Is it an update or does my computer just hate me?

Hi! We updated the site to make it easier for people to discover great content by interest and to interact with like-minded people who share the same passions. We will be keeping a close eye on how these changes affect the community and tweaking the new design as appropriate. During this process we always consider member suggestions.

You can see a view of all recent projects in your feed, linked in the top nav or here: https://www.instructables.com/feed/?filter=recent -- just make sure you're subscribed to the channels and authors you're interested in: https://www.instructables.com/feed/customize/

Another request for: "Please bring back the 'all recent' " option without having to pick and choose particular categories and authors. Like it used to work.

https://www. instructables.com/ recent?type=id

... was my default entry to instructables, and I found lots of cool stuff that way that I wouldn't have thought of searching for, or authors I didn't know existed.

If that's not possible, allow me to a build a "feed" that is everything, from everywhere, all the time, and sort it by most recent.

Otherwise, it's just too hard to navigate now, and so I don't think I'll be visiting at all.

Seems a quick fix would just to give an "all" option, so if we didn't want to filter by category, and just wanted to see, "all," it would be readily available to us.

I like seeing everything being shown, not just featured, or a feed where i have to subscribe to every channel.

So... We need to suscribe one-by-one to ALL categories.
At least, a 'select all' button in every section to check all categories...
I use my office computer to check instructables while take some coffe... Now I need to login and go to my feed instead of writing and easy URL?
And another case... For exmaple, during Christmas/Halloween there is a lot of post about it in different categories. Probably, one person is not interested in cooking but when he opens ./recent can see that there is new content about christmas cookies or so...
We have lost this posibility of seen differents DIY ideas about categories that are not our interests...

Not the best update that can be done in my opinion :(
I hope i have well clicked on every categories so not to loose something :(
I came on instructable to grab idea from everywhere, every categories, I
only go through "recent" every day to see what have been done ... (and
even sometime, the "recent" categories was not totally ordered
correctly, but , hey...that can happen)

so please, add a "select all" catagories on the feed, thanks a lot
and to be honest, the "white tick in a yellow box" on image that are almost yellow and white is not the easiest to be seen XD
(put green tick in yellow box for example... :) )
keep the good job :)

I tried your suggestion and I got along great. Change is inevitable in anything that is alive. Keep up the fine work.
Thanks.

To have to subscribe to 205 (!!) channels is not really a solution to get back the basic "Whats new on the page?", no?

I am about halfway thru a python program that will let you scrape off a recents page for your own use. Stay tuned, I plan to publish on Instructables and on github.
( Python 3 ! )

Using Opera or Chrome on Android:

When browsing stories from my feed, if I scroll down several pages and then click on a story, when I click the back button I'm taken back to the top of my feed. It is arduous to then have to scroll all the way back down to where I was before to continue browsing. It makes it disincentizing to click on a story unless I am really, really interested.

Bumping for an option besides having to manually add every single channel to our subscribed list to be able to view everything. That also seems to defeat the intention of having a subscribed list.

Ok Its been a few days, and the site is working better now than when I logged in and nothing seem to work, I do miss the "featured" and "recent" Buttons. Another thing that I miss is the "favourite" button. I know it's still there, but I used to tell my students to look at my Instructables profile and look in my favourites. They can no longer do that anymore, it hasn't worked for a year or more and it was something I used all the time.
Other than that I like the new format.

I have the same issue. I cannot find the RECENT area. When I click on my shortcut, https://www.instructables.com/recent. It takes the "recent" off and goes to the home page. I see nothing on there to click for RECENT. Am I missing something??

Currently, the only solution to get back the /recent is
- Go to your feed
- customice it
- Add EVERY channel (There are 205 channels currently)
- Now you can see the old /recent at https://www.instructables.com/feed/?filter=recent

Crappy i know but hopefully #bringback/recent gets a bit drive...

why should any one have to customize.. when they site was what they wanted before? make the user jump through hoops to get what was there orginally. makes no sense at all.

I did what you said. I do miss viewing everything that came out though. You never know when something sparks your interest. Thanks!!

Every ible is in a channel. So by subscribing to ALL (!!!!) channels, you get all new ibles in your feed's "recent". Stupid, but works.

I would also like to voice my support for the return of the "instructables.com/recent" link and -functionality, as stated in https://www.instructables.com/circuits/community/R...

As it stands now it's an unnecessary amount of work to see all recent instructables.
Also, as far as I can see it there are currently three different threads on the same topic, including this one here:
https://www.instructables.com/outside/community/Si...
https://www.instructables.com/circuits/community/R...
https://www.instructables.com/circuits/community/L...

Please do consider reenabling this functionality.

My interests are rather broad. I've been very happy to look at the latest Featured items, as well as the Recent submissions every night. It makes for wonderful bedtime reading. In short - I liked the site just the way it was.

Is clicking on recent supposed to be trying to force me to populate my feed? If it is I will be an unhappy camper. I am somewhat eclectic so in order for me to set up a feed to cover my interests i would be clicking well over 100 buttons. For instance in cooking alone there are 28 subcategories to pick. If you are going this way please give us a chose all button so we can go in and eliminate the 2 or 3 categories we are not interested in at the time.

I guess my enjoyment has changed. I will wait to see if there are still site updates to come. I enjoyed browsing the latest Instructables in four categories. This has been a big part of the reason for my accessing the site regularly (twice per day). I am extremely grateful for the wonderful information that has been passed on this site over the years. I do hope the site is in transition to something easier to navigate.
Thanks for the many hours of dedication the many have put into making this site what it is.

Bad timing?
Here all seems to be normal.
Just imagine we would get notifications about what is done and when ;)
You refresh a site or log in and you get a pop up informing you that today between 10 and 12 we might experience problems due to server or site updates.
But then again it would deprive you from starting a topic about the issues you face ROFL
