Lynyrd Skynyrd- The Ballad of Curtis Leow: Well I used to wake the mornin’ … before the rooster crowed Searchin’ for soda bottles to get myself some dough Brought 'em down to the corner … down to the country store Cash 'em in and give my money to a man named Curtis Leow Old Curt was a black man with white curly hair When he had a fifth of wine he did not have a care He used to own an old Dobro … used to play it across his knees I'd give old Curt my money … he'd play all day for me Play me a song Curtis Leow … Curtis Leow Well I got your drinking money … tune up your Dobro People said he was useless … them people all were fools 'Cause Curtis Leow was the finest picker to ever play the blues He looked to be sixty … and maybe I was ten Mama used to whup me but I'd go see him again I'd clap my hands, stomp my feets, try to stay in time He'd play me a song or two then take another drink of wine Play me a song Curtis Leow … Curtis Leow Well I got your drinking money … tune up your Dobro People said he was useless … them people all were fools 'Cause Curtis Leow was the finest picker to ever play the blues Yesssir On the day old Curtis died nobody came to pray Ol' preacher said some words and they chunked him in the clay Well he lived a lifetime playin' the black man's blues And on the day he lost his life that's all he had to lose Play me a song Curtis Leow … hey Curtis Leow I wish that you was here so everyone would know People said you were useless … them people all are fools 'Cause Curtis you're the finest picker to ever play the blues Mmmmm …

At work, my firewall keeps me from viewing streaming-media. So I pulled those up on my phone. Ran down my battery, but well worth it. My!, the girls looked young!

I think she's one of the most underated female musicians out there.

. Yes indeed. I've been a big BR fan since "Home Plate" (1975). . Check the credits on your old Rock (especially the folksier ones) and Country albums - she sang backup for EVERYBODY!

She really didn't get a lot of comercial airplay until "something to talk about". That's a catchy tune, but not her most soulful work.

BLACK MOON by Emerson, Lake, & Palmer

Everyday I see a new cloud coming
There's one more hole in space
Every time I walk across the street
I feel the gas blowin' in my face
We never learn even deserts burn
And all politicians lie
They won't do nothin'
'Till we reach high noon
Black Moon

Ain't nobody gonna walk on water
When it falls like acid rain
Nobody gonna fake you out
Every poison stains
We're all stuck here
Right in the middle
We never call the tune
They won't do nothin'
'Till we reach high noon
Black Moon

In the night see the red sky burning
There's fire on the mountain
Oil slicks on the sea
Black Moon is rising
How long will it be

Just take a look around the world
The future never waits
We're skating on the thin ice
And we're in the hands of fate
What we need's a little re-direction
To find our blue lagoon
You know it wouldn't come
A moment to soon
Black Moon's
Fear is in their eye

....black moon

It's good, but probably my fave is "Happiness is a Warm Gun" or "Revolution".

ahh, yes, revolution is great too, i like basically all of their songs, but the best ones are Being for the benefit of Mr Kite!, Strawberry fields forever, All My Lovin, and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

there is a select few people i know that like the beatles, mainly because im in grade eight, and everybody wants to be a 'scene' kid, they're all obsessed with mainstream, but anyway, those few people and i made a list of the greatest songs in our opinion, and i am working on writing the lyrics to them out =P

its the best thing to do during history.

It was the same way 25 years ago, when I first got serious about the Beatles. Everyone was into Micheal Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, and (EARLY) Run DMC. One of my first significant TV memories, was John Lennon's death.

Yeah, I would disagree with some of his views, but I think he was always sincere. And a great songsmith!

. My first thought, upon hearing Lennon had been murdered, was "Why?!?!" Out of all the people in the world to shoot, why John Lennon?"

I agree! like, what is with all of the irony? a man who never harmed anyone, and promoted peace was killed oh so gruesomely.

He's not as profound as I used to think he was, but he was still a loveable moptop, and made some great tunes!

. A lot of ppl aren't as profound as I used to think they were. Myself included.
. He may not have been profound, but he did have a profound effect on his generation (and beyond). I'm not one to view entertainers as anything special or to idolize them, but I don't think it's unreasonable to put Mr. Lennon in the same class as Ghandi, MLK, and others* who did a great job of promoting non-violence, social harmony, &c to, not only their peers, but a large part of the world. Personally, I thinks it's all pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking and Mr. Lennon did a few too many hits of acid, but it can't hurt to have those things as ideals for humanity.
. "All we are saying, is give peace a chance."
.
. * Yeah, JL didn't put his life on the line like many of these ppl did, but he still managed to get the message out and got ppl to listen. You don't have to be a hero to be a good guy.

Yeah, I was like 10, and I thought what's the point? There's plenty of perfectly rotten people to kill, why choose a Beatle?

I got serious about music in an era where the Stones, Eagles and the Who were all on "breaks". John Bonham had just died, and it was several years before grunge would arrive. I listened to vinyl and 8-tracks. You kids are so lucky! There are great collections on CD these days.

Uriah Heep - The Wizard

He was the wizard
Of a thousand kings
And I chanced to meet him
One night wandering
He told me tales
And he drank my wine
Me and my magic man
Kinda feeling fine

He had a cloak of gold
And eyes of fire
And as he spoke
I felt a deep desire
To free the world
Of its fear and pain
And help the people
To feel free again

Why don't we listen to
The voices in our hearts
'cause then I know we'd find
We're not so far apart
Everybodys got to be happy
Everyone should sing
For we know the joy of life
The peace that love can bring

So spoke the wizard
In his mountain home
The vision of his wisdom
Means we'll never be alone
And I will dream of my magic night
And a million silver stars
That guide me with their light
