Tango card OR actual prize items? What is sent to winning contestants from outside of the US? Answered

Hey everyone :)

I am from India and was reading through all the fine print rules and regulations for contests. It is stated that contestants outside of the US are given tango cards with currency equivalent of the prize value. However, on further digging, I found posts here asking about import duty, etc. for the items being shipped to India, UK, Canada, etc. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any recent posts and was wondering what the current scenario is. It would be great if someone could let me know about the same!

The only physical items we send to international contest winners is an Instructables t-shirt, pencil, notebook, stickers, mug, etc. Whatever is in the prize pack!

We used to send physical prizes so chances are the topics you're seeing are from a while back. Just turned out to be quite the hassle for everyone involved. :)

From what I got from other winners with price struggles is that the winning part is not the hardest.
The real problem is the lack of shipping options as it seems Instructables is just using one default shipping service.
I gave up on contests just for this reason alone.
I get it that import duties are a thing for the winner to accept but even if someone does this there is no way of knowing whether or not a price will be shipped.
What I fail to understand a bit is that there was never any real info on these things.
Oh, I can enter a contest, great, lets do it!
Then you wait, hope and get all exited.
Until you get to know that despite winning you won't get the price.

Limiting the shipping of prices to just the US and a very few select countries (if they are still supported today) is IMHO not really fair.
Makes it all look a US only thing :(

Thank you so much for clearing it up.
Yes the posts I came across were from quite a while back and the hassle you mentioned is exactly what I was wondering about haha..
