UV LEDs - I have a plan... Answered

I have a plan for an Instructable, and it needs several UV LEDs. #1 son has a toy sonic screwdriver with a UV LED for showing up secret messages. However, it is also quite visibly purple.

Can anybody recommend UV LEDs that emit the most UV and least visible light?

I've seen UV LEDs, but none without that cool purple glow. Try Radioshack, look through their selection of stuff.

. Especially around children, I would think the visible light would be a desirable "Hey! I'm on!" feature. That said, I'd check E-bay or Google "UV LED". phenoptix sells LEDs on your side of the pond - never done business with him, but he seems like a nice guy. . Did you adopt #1 son from Charlie Chan?

It's a family thing - my dad called me #1 son. I was his only son.

My dad used to call me #1 son, until #2 son thought it meant that I was better...

Filter it instead? I've never seen UV without Purple ness. OK UV is outside of the visible spectrum, I mean that I don't know of any monochromatic (or narrow bandwidth) UV sources other than UV LASERS. L

You tried places like Poundland? They have "Money scanners" by the checkouts which are just 2 button cell batteries and a UV led, used for showing the face of our "gracious" Queen on bank notes.
