Universal RC custom tweek Answered

I'm not sure if I post this in the right topic, so let me know if I didn't, thanks.  My kid got two rc cars a couple of xmases ago.  One of the RC controllers antenna  broke off and want to know if there is a way to make a universal rc control unit so my kid can use one controller for both cars?  Kinda  like a similar function you have for a universal remote for a tv.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

this is a diy site, so here is how i would do it. i would take the oscillator crystal out of the broken controller, (this is the metal can looking thing) and then desolder one leg of the original crystal. solder a two postition slide switch and have it switch between the two crystals, this should make it a "universal" remote. i can draw you up a picture if that sounds too confusing. i will wark you, the controls may be different than the original ones, since the pins on the original remotes' IC maybe assigned differently for the switches.

i too am after a similar thing where you can tune the frequency to either 27mhz or 43mhz, for a remote controll tank that drives and fires a cannon (gunpowder, copper tube, rocket starter 9v)

is there even such a thing, because when i search for one all i ever get is a multi band remote not a multi frequency

You should be able to replace the antenna, it is essentially only a piece of stiff wire.

you should go to your local RC shop...there are a lot of multi-device RC "remotes" on the market...they can transmit on different frequencies and a lot of them can even be programmed for the controlls to do different things depending on what model is being used (such as using button x and y to fire the guns on a battle ship, but when used with a model earth mover they would raise and lower the shovel)
