Using HHO generator to run a Hydrogen fuel cell? Answered

I was recently looking at random stuff on youtube when I came across a couple of videos on Hydrogen fuel cells:
1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3PkgUcI4Z8
2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_Whbb_hlPs&feature=g-vrec

I was wondering if it was possible to combine an HHO generator and a Hydrogen fuel cell to get electricity straight from water.
Just a thought.

Oh, such timing - I am covering this exact topic with some of my students right now.

Due to transfer losses, the process you propose would only be viable if you could show that it was in some way better than charging batteries and then running a device from the batteries.

You can get electricity from water in many ways. All require an energy input. As a rule all systems are lossy and so there is more energy input than output.

SO yes I guess you could crack water into H and O using electricity and you can put the H and O into a fuel cell and get electricity back.

HOWEVER it will be less than you put in so why not use that?
