Vanessa..Stereo speakers? Answered

I have a late-70s, early 80s SEARS Compact Stereo am/fm radio phonograph tape system. On back, it says 80 OHM speakers hookup. What can I use for a substitution for the speakers??

Thanks, Vanessa

An 8 ohm rating for bookshelf speakers is standard so just about anything you see in a case will work, except for really large speakers. The Sears unit won’t have enough “oomph” for big speakers. It is not “high end” equipment, so I wouldn’t spend a lot for speakers.

I have picked up some decent speakers very cheaply at the second hand store. Most of them will have come off of systems like yours. If the grill can be removed from the speaker, make sure that the domed parts aren’t dented and the paper parts aren’t torn. Sometimes you can get a worker to hook the speakers up to give them a listen. Also, if they are badly scratched, they are likely to have been abused.

VERY unusual. I suspect it says 8.0 Ohms. Try it with one
