Virus/trojan infections on site Answered

There have been a lot of trojans popping up from this site over the past week.  I suspect it may be coming in through the ads, like it did at least once before.  I can visit a page on the site (never the same one, so it's inconsistent) and it will redirect to a bogus page warning of an infection.  Yesterday, after this happened, I had a fake malware removal program on my computer that was masking for a trojan.  Malwarebytes was able to remove it.  The same thing has happened a few other times on this site, but thankfully no more infections have gotten through.  It's only been happening to me on the Instructables site.  Between this and the flood of collections, I'm about ready to quit the site entirely.

The trojan that was detected was Win32/Reveton.T!lnk and JS/Reveton.C, detected yesterday, 7/23/2013 at 7:41am (EDT). I use MS System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection, which gave me that information, but I don't have any logs to see which pages I was visiting at the time. I also use Avast antivirus, which also detected it. Malwarebytes Free was able to remove it.

I haven't noticed specifically which pages, but it's been while I'm browsing recently posted instructables. Each time it's happened in the morning, probably around 7:30-8am, but that's when I usually check the site so I can't elminate other times. It has only happened to me on the Instructables website, about 3-4 times over the past few days. I can dismiss the bogus alert, close the window, and go back to the same page with no problems, which is why I suspect some of the ads. I'm running Win7 with IE9 with no add-ons beyond flash, shockwave, and adobe reader. If I have it happen again I will get a screenshot and the url of the page.

If you are following a link to an external site that is returning a virus/trojan alert please indicate where you found this link so we can investigate. If you are getting virus/trojan alerts from browsing pages within out site your browser/system may be infected.

Are you running any browser add-ons? What browser and version are you using?

Have you got any specific details, like pages & times (they might be able to pin it down to specific ads like thst), messages, reports from your security software, screen shots etc?

Also, what operating system and browser are you using, and which releases.

The more data you can give the bug team, the quicker they can fix things.

(Oh, and can you move this to "bugs"?)
