Voltage regulator? Answered

I need to know how to build a 12v-5v pulse regulator for my fuel level sending unit/gauge in my truck. I would like to know what parts to buy and the order of everything.

Thank you in advance.

If you just wanting to build a 5 VDC supply with a input of 12VDC then a LM7805 would work.

The LM7805 can accept up to around 35volt input and regulate it down to 5 VDC. Of course you should heat sink it (a piece of metal attached to it ) to act as a radiator to get rid of excess heat. It requires some support components so that is where you need to research / Google for the best design schematic for your needs.

Do you mean a switching regulator? Also, what are your current requirements?

I figured it out I am going to start working on it in the next few days. Since i broke my big toe on my right foot. here is the site i found http://1962to1965mopar.ornocar.org/ml-instrument-voltage-regulator64.html
I am going to build it a little different than that because it is n after market gauge.
