Wanting to dye orange-wheat work boots black but not sure what material they're made of Answered

They look like knock off Timberlands or those typical construction work boots. They're not a brand I've heard of (ShoeVibe "Tan Fly Ankle Boot") so I'm having a hard time even finding the manufacturer online and only finding out of stock retail options. It's definitely not leather and it doesn't appear to be faux suede. The description on a site I found said "man made" upper and lining.
I'm basically just wondering if I could use black shoe polish to dye them or if I need to actually dig deeper into this material thing and get shoe dye.

Without knowing the material it is just guesswork.
I can only assume they are sub standard quality as otherwise they would state "Genuine leather".

In the US at least this whole thing of leather/ not leather is getting very deceptive. Sometimes now they will stitch in a piece of leather into the fake leather and then label it as leather and man made. So just a piece is enough to get the label. People don't appear to care to much anymore since they have become so used to the fake stuff in everything. To me the big difference is leather doesn't melt. Try stomping out a grass fire with plastic shoes.

Anyway, its a big topic, the leather quality, the fake leather quality, and where to use it. Some of the high quality fakes are pretty good now. They even stay flexible in sub zero weather. But they tend to fall apart.

It is not much better in AU but at least for work boots from a proper shop you still get the quality you ask for.
I tried only once to use a pair of "Quality leather work boots" from supermarket.
After bringing them back for replacements three times the shop finally agreed the quality sucks and gave a full refund.
