We've Moved! Answered

Instructables has taken another step forward by moving from the naval base in Alameda to San Francisco! While we loved the views and the shop at the tower the space was getting a little too cozy and, along with Potenco, we moved on across the bay into a new spot in the South of Market neighborhood.

The new space means that we're easier to visit and we're much closer to the many cool folks of the DIY community in San Francisco. We have some big plans for the new space, but for now we're focusing more on unpacking boxes and making lots of runs to pick up free items we find on Craigslist. Oh, and finding all the cool new places to eat nearby. We're loving our new food options.

We'll have more pics of the new space soon. Right now the place is pretty sparse, but it'll be cool. Very cool.

Wow, I'm surprised. I was growing attached to the base... I thought it was the perfect place for the 'Ibles staff. Oh well, the new place sounds great. Make sure to post pictures of the new building.

Which way round is that photo - are you further from England or closer?

Not that it makes much difference...

looked on google maps and it makes it a tad further away from us in crummy old uk, but most flights go so SF so its probably closer logistically

Depends on how you look at it. Most flights from England come into SFO, right? The new site is closer to SFO than the old site...

Further, by maybe 20 miles (that's about 70,400 cubits or whatever weird units you all use over there). But think of us as 20 miles closer, if you measure around the globe in the other direction!

That would be 6400 rods, 1600 chains or 160 furlongs, then

It's not that bad. It's really only a little over 5 miles which is about 34 fizzwobbits for you.

it's a 15 min bike ride, a 40 min ferry ride, and another 10 min bike ride away, so 65 ferbiks. which is 20 miles in MY book. (OK it might only be 5 As The Crow Flies.)

Why move from a perfectly good naval base? I would love to move to a naval base... No matter how far it is away from civilization.

If you have moved a little closer to the ocean, you are in more danger of being "shaken into the ocean" :-o

They've moved further from the Hayward fault, which in a recent study had a somewhat greater probability of a big quake than the San Andreas fault... Reasonably close to the SF train station. Hmm.

I played that piano in the last picture. Oh, and cool! Eric (W) told me about this, and I saw Eric (N)'s thing on mindtangle. Is there going to be a new address and stuff in the newsletter?

Change is good! It sounds like an awesome place! Good luck team, I am sure you all will fit in perfectly with your neighbors! Oh yea, about your neighbors, have you met them yet? If so, what have they said about their new acquaintances?

I can't figure out how I feel about that....on one hand, now you have a bigger space...on the other, you were in a control tower! Either way, as long as it's better on an every day basis, congrats!

just thought where I heard Alemeda before.... I know! Have you ever seen the mysthbusters, or know where the aircraft hanger is that they use, or their building, or their bomb area, or their "secret place?"

I believe the "disused naval base" is the old iBles runway.
